Diet for Psoriasis

A watchful diet for psoriasis doesn’t have to be extreme and can have a noticeable effect on your Psoriasis Symptoms.

If you suffer from psoriasis or have a loved one who is, you know that this is an ailment that you will have to live with for the rest of your life.  But it doesn’t mean that there is nothing that you can do to help control it.

But there are other simple things that you can do to help.  Quitting smoking and limiting your alcohol are usually the first two on the list.  The other factor that you have control over is your diet.  Watching what you eat and also what you have flare-ups from can also give you an edge.

Things to increase:

  • Green vegetables including broccoli
  • Cereals and whole grain
  • Fiber (important to help keep your body detoxified)
  • Omega 3 Fatty Acids
  • Salmon
  • Flax seed

Things to stay away from:

  • Red meats and beef
  • Tomatoes
  • Citrus fruits and berries
  • Dairy products
  • Alcohol and soda
  • Vinegar
  • Spicy or Oily foods
  • Sugar and white floor
  • MSG and Chives

… but you will be amazed that variety of foods and recipes at your disposal.  Most of the effort is at the start of changing your diet, retraining yourself, your habits and your taste buds.

Keeping a journal or log of your flare-ups . Look for commonalities prior to having the flare-ups.  What where you doing?  Where you under stress or pressure?  What did you have to eat in the past 24 hours?  Keeping track of what was happening in your life can give you a better idea as to what to avoid in your life.

Living with the symptoms and irritations that come along with psoriasis can feel like a constant mental drain.  But by practicing a diet for psoriasis based on clinical studies and monitoring your own bodies reactions to different food, can dramatically change the frequency and severity of you Psoriasis Flare-ups.
